Notarized annual reports filed with the Secretary showing the organization's name and address, date founded, itemized statement of receipts and disbursements including those relating to annual fairs, and signatures of the presidents and secretaries. The annual reports of the Wisconsin State Board of Agriculture and its State Fair from 1905 to 1917 are listed under Dane County. Reports of a few societies are accompanied by correspondence with the Secretary concerning irregularities in their operations.

The State Board of Agriculture was created in 1897 (Chap. 301, Laws 1897), assuming the duties of the State Agricultural Society. In 1915, the Board was abolished as a separate agency and consolidated with several others to form the Department of Agriculture (WIHV85-A353) (Laws 1915, Ch. 413). Wisconsin State Fair

The first Wisconsin State Fair was held in Janesville in October 1851, sponsored by the State Agricultural Society. From 1851 to 1885, the fair was held at different locations. Milwaukee was the site from 1886 to 1891, and in this last year a permanent site was purchased there. West Allis, in Milwaukee County, continues to be the fair's home.
